How can I check if electrical wiring is the cause?

  1. Try listening on a battery-powered portable radio.
  2. Walk around your home to see whether the interference becomes stronger near particular rooms, appliances or electrical equipment.
  3. Turn electrical devices off one at a time to identify the source.
  4. If it is safe to do so, switch off the electricity at the consumer unit and listen on a battery-powered radio. If the interference disappears, the source is likely to be within your property.

Faulty electrical wiring should only be inspected and repaired by a qualified electrician. In addition to causing radio interference, faulty wiring may present a safety risk.

If the interference remains after checking your own property, the source may be from a neighbouring property or external equipment. In this case, further investigation may be required to identify the cause.
