Can a temporary licensed radio station affect my reception?

In some cases, a temporary licensed radio station may affect reception of nearby radio services if:

  • You are located close to the temporary transmitter.
  • Your radio aerial installation is particularly sensitive.
  • There is an existing reception issue such as a faulty aerial, amplifier, or cabling.

However, temporary licensed stations are carefully planned to minimise interference to other services.

What should I do if I think a temporary licensed radio station is causing interference?

  1. Check whether the reception issue coincides with a local event or temporary radio station broadcast.
  2. Try listening on another radio receiver if available.
  3. Check whether neighbouring properties are experiencing the same problem.
  4. Ensure your aerial system and radio equipment are working correctly.
  5. If the problem persists, report the issue to the station operator or the relevant licensing authority.

Most temporary licensed radio stations only operate for a short period, and any reception issues associated with them are usually temporary.
